Postdoctoral fellows are to provide psychotherapy and psychological and neuropsychological evaluations to children, adolescents, and adults in the Redmond community. Work with a team of therapists at LightHeart as a consultant. Provide supervision and training to LightHeart interns, pre-interns, or associates. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to take on a leadership role and have a desire to expand their expertise with a specific population by performing, undergoing training, and researching a specialty area.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP POSITION:
The one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at LightHeart Psychological Associates is a minimum 1,500-hour position (minimum of 32 hours per week).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR FELLOWSHIP APPOINTMENT:
TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
The Postdoctoral Fellowship program is designed to provide the knowledge and proper experiences sufficient to meet the requirements for state licensure and goals of the program. LightHeart’s Postdoctoral program will ensure Fellows receive the supervision and training to gain experience appropriate to a specialty area(s) of professional activity the Fellow intends to practice post-licensure (i.e., psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and/or work with specific populations). The Fellow will follow all American Psychological Association ethical rules and guidelines as well as Washington State laws for the practice of psychology.
At the conclusion of training, the Fellow will demonstrate sufficient competency in their ability to provide both psychotherapy and psychological evaluations to the degree that they would be able to take steps post-licensure to practice without direct supervision.
Psychological Assessment:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to provide direct clinical services in psychological assessment. In addition to administration, scoring, interpreting, and report writing, the Fellow will demonstrate competence in the ability to lead intakes and feedback sessions for all assessments. The Fellow will be expected to familiarize themselves with any novel instruments and will receive direct instruction in the form of supervision or will attend trainings to learn proper administration procedures. Once a Fellow has mastered specific assessments, they will then be expected to provide training and additional supervision to interns and pre-interns. Fellows will be able to complete all assessment reports within 4 weeks and 21 hours of time including direct client facing and indirect hours.
Psychotherapy:
The Fellow will be expected to provide direct clinical services in psychotherapy. Fellows will comply with expectations, such as making and maintaining clinical documentation and record keeping in a timely fashion and following HIPAA requirements when working directly with clients and/or handling documents. Fellows will have the opportunity to expand their expertise with special populations by attending additional trainings. Fellowships require research and training on special populations, including current treatment/theories of practice, and the Fellow will have the opportunity to present information from trainings and research findings to staff and/or community.
Didactic Training:
Didactic trainings may include review of assessment instruments, compilation of appropriate batteries on a case-by-case basis, discussion of legal and ethical matters, coordination of care, psychological theory, professional private practice management issues, and case vignettes. The Fellow will further develop their leadership skills by leading didactic trainings, providing supervision/consultation to pre-interns and/or associates, and collaborating as needed with other practitioners at LightHeart.
Training and support for the Fellow’s development of a specialty area includes direct supervision from a psychologist with expertise in that area, advanced didactics, attendance at conferences, additional research done on the part of the Fellow that may then be presented, and delivering supervision and consultation services on special topics to other LightHeart staff. Fellows will be granted time off to attend or present at conferences or trainings to develop clinical skills in specialty interest areas.
COMPENSATION:
Fellows will be w-2 employees and receive fee for service payments based on a set billable unit rate. Billable units are measured by direct client services, including therapy sessions and psychological evaluations. They may also include attendance at case consultations, didactics, compliance trainings, clinical collateral consultations, and other services. Payroll is deposited via direct deposit every other Friday. Fellows are eligible to receive additional benefits, including insurance (medical, dental, vision, life, and short- & long-term disability), paid leave (accrued PTO, sick, bereavement), 401k with matching, free continuing education credits, and student loan payments.
SUPERVISION:
Responsibilities of the Fellow under supervision of Dr. Holley Kaskel and other staff psychologists:
Provide consultation to the staff at LightHeart on any areas of specialty or expertise as needed.
Individual supervision will include discussion of all services (direct and indirect) provided by the Fellow. All work (therapy and assessment) will be reviewed by the appropriate supervisor. Individual supervision for therapy cases will be provided one of LightHeart’s staff or contract psychologists or psychiatrists. Individual supervision for assessment cases will be provided by Dr. Dobbs or Dr. Kippes. There will be both discussion of and instruction in the theoretical concepts underlying their work. In addition, the Fellow will be supervised in their management of professional practice and other administrative or business issues. Appropriate Washington State laws and American Psychological Association’s Ethics Code will be integrated into case discussions in supervision. Finally, both supervisors and Fellow will evaluate the supervisory process at the midpoint and conclusion of the postdoctoral training.
Supervision will occur for all services provided. There are no fees for supervision if Fellow is an employee. The supervision sessions will be documented Fellow and tracked by supervisors. The Supervisors will review the Fellow’s progress notes, assessment reports, and provide weekly direct feedback to the Fellow.
